Friday, 15 January 2010
Guam - Vice-Speaker BJ Cruz says he has just received a response to the letter he sent to Congresswoman Madeline Bordallo asking her to seek a further extension of the public comment period for the draft environmental impact statement of the military buildup. According to Bordallo's response she agrees with Senator Cruz and has even sent a letter to secretary of the navy Ray Mabus requesting for this extension.
Meanwhile Governor Felix Camacho says he doesn't think another extension of the draft eis public comment period will be granted. Instead he believes that GovGuam should use the remaining time to focus it's attention on community outreach efforts to ensure that the opinions of the people of Guam are heard by the Department of Defense.
While the draft eis which is thousands of pages long was just made public during the latter part of November the public comment period for the draft eis ends on February 17th.
