Pa'a Tao Tao Tano to Conduct Assessment of Chamorro Language

Pa'a Tao Tao Tano to Conduct Assessment of Chamorro Language

Guam - The Pa'a Tao Tao Tano group spoke to the mayors council today about a Chamorro language assessment survey they will conduct with the help of village mayors.

Project director Nicole Calvo says that the survey will begin in mid-January by going door to door throughout the villages conducting the survey on chammorro households only. The survey will be paid for through a grant from the Administration for Native Americans. This survey will help them determine how many people can speak, understand, read and write in Chamorro. Calvo says it will help them get an accurate measure of the status of the Chammorro language so that they then better develop other programs to preserve and perpetuate Guam's native tongue.
