Australian filmmaker John Pilger decries US provocation across Pacific

Award-winning Australian journalist and filmmaker John Pilger has warned of "dangerous" US provocation across the Pacific and slammed Western media for propagating the rhetoric of the "China threat". The accusations come in Pilger's latest documentary, "The Coming War on China", which debuted in Britain and Russia last week.

John Pilger's latest documentary, "The Coming War on China", premiered on ITV in the UK and Russian TV channel Russia Today.

Pilger said China's threat is making headlines in the West, but what is not reported is that China is surrounded and threatened by around 400 US military bases.

"The provocation of China that has gone on in the last five or six years has been extreme. This is extraordinary. It is not blockade. This is blockout," John Pilger said.

Pilger also pointed out in his documentary that the US needs to create an enemy, to justify its annual 600-billion-dollar defense budget.

US Defense News said in a report that giants of the military and defense industry saw their stocks increase by 5 to 7 percent the day Trump won the presidential race. It even claimed a time of prosperity for the industry had come.

Chinese state news agency Xinhua said in a commentary that Pilger's film shows that the US is the real threat to the Asia-Pacific region.

Pilger said that of all the countries he would like his film to be shown in, China and the United States are top of his list.
