Taotao Tano looks into birth scheme

The Taotao Tano group is now looking into the birth scheme that involves tourists.

Taotao Tano president Greg Cruz Jr., in his letter to the Department of Public Health, is asking for the list of foreign nationals who gave birth in the CNMI.

Cruz said this is among the schemes that have tainted the CNMI and is one of the reasons why the federal government is taking over the islands’ immigration system.

Cases of human smuggling and exploitation, he said, have been televised and reported nationwide and across the globe “giving our homeland with such a bad reputation.”

According to Cruz, certain individuals should also be held accountable and responsible for allowing the entry of nonresident nurses who were made to believe that they would be included in what turned out to be a non-existent internship program at the Commonwealth Health Center.

Cruz said this incident is yet another reason why the CNMI is now facing “a predicament with our immigration control.”

He noted that one of the apparent recruiters of the nurses was aggressively advocating the federalization of CNMI immigration.
